Machine Authorizations and Apprentice Safety

A machine authorization attests that an apprentice has received the training and permission to use a given machine safely. In a school workshop, tracking these authorizations protects apprentices, the trainer and the institution — and clarifies who can do what.

Why authorize per machine?

A milling machine, a lathe, a saw or a CNC machine present distinct risks. Authorizing an apprentice generically "for the workshop" is too coarse. Per-machine authorization ensures everyone only accesses the equipment for which they have been trained and assessed.

What an authorization should contain

Apprentice safety: a framework to respect

Vocational training requires particular attention to the safety of young people in training. Tracking authorizations, linking the required PPE to each workstation, and being able to prove who was authorized are concrete elements of this responsibility.

Authorizations and safety in MECAFLOW

MECAFLOW lets you define authorizations per machine, link them to quizzes and skills, and make them visible when a machine is scanned. Combined with the incident and PPE register, the workshop gains clear safety traceability, adapted to the Swiss context.

Frequently asked questions

What is a machine authorization?

It is the attestation that an apprentice has received the training and permission to use a specific machine safely, at a supervised or autonomous level.

Why authorize per machine rather than overall?

Because every machine (lathe, milling machine, CNC, saw) presents distinct risks. Per-machine authorization ensures access is limited to the equipment for which someone has been trained.

What should an authorization contain?

The machine concerned, the date and the trainer, the validated prerequisites such as a safety quiz, the level granted and any revalidation date.

Does MECAFLOW manage machine authorizations?

Yes. MECAFLOW defines authorizations per machine, links them to quizzes and skills, and displays them when a machine is scanned, alongside an associated PPE register.

MECAFLOW, clarity in the workshop

MECAFLOW is the Swiss workshop management platform for vocational mechanical engineering schools and industry. Non-invasive (QR + PIN, no wiring), made in Switzerland (data in Europe), free for schools.
