Workshop Safety: Schools and Companies Strengthen Traceability of PPE and Incidents

Press release·2 July 2026

Biel/Bienne (BE), 2 July 2026. Workplace safety is no longer just claimed, it is traced. In mechanical workshops — training workshops included — the documented tracking of personal protective equipment (PPE), incidents and machine authorizations is establishing itself as good practice.

From Spoken Instructions to Written Proof

Dated incidents and near-misses, PPE checked by machine or workstation, recurring safety points (fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, emergency exits): safety is now logged and signed off. In the event of an inspection, the workshop has a logbook, not memories.

Safety at the Workstation, at the Moment of the Scan

An emerging good practice is to present instructions at the exact moment of accessing the machine. In MECAFLOW, the apprentice who scans a workstation first sees the hazards, the required PPE and the instructions, then ticks "read and understood" before gaining access — a record kept on the trainer's side.

A Culture That Is Learned

On the company side, traceability meets the expectations of prevention bodies. On the school side, it builds a reflex: apprentices trained to document safety will keep that habit throughout their career.

« The best safety culture is the one you learn young. Having an apprentice read a machine's instructions before accessing it is a reflex they will keep for their entire career. »— The Nexus Studios team
